Very nice article and great to spark some debat. It's amazing to hear experience of teams adopting both framework. Thanks for the sharing.

My thoughts about the Scrum vs Kanban debate.

The article is as interesting as the title is wrong "Scrum is Dead" :) I wouldn't say it's one vs another. It might just depend on what is best for your team. Today most people are talking Kanban vs Scrum, but they are so many other frameworks currently and to come.

Additionally, many of the cons mentioned from the Scrum framework are not intrinsic to the Scrum concept but due to how it is wrongly applied and understood.

eg1: "People cared more about delivering in time than delivering with the desired level of quality." In Scrum you assess as a team what is the minimum quality accepted to deliver with the *Definition of Done* - so you wouldn't deliver something that is not of the desired quality.

eg2: "if you needed to do unexpected work (bugs, problems in production, etc.), it would affect your time and consequently make you fail the commitment you made in the planning meeting." This relates to *prioritization* and not getting sidetracked. With Scrum, you have a Sprint Goal which determines what you want to deliver that brings more value to the end-user. Then it's up to the Product Owner to determine if it's more important to deal with bugs straight away or in the upcoming sprint (depending on the severity).

Also, some of the points that are criticized about Scrum (such as estimation) are then adopted to the Kanban methodology.

Summary: I wouldn't try to argue that one Framework is better than the other. It's true that there are too many teams using Scrum for using Scrum and not for the benefit of the framework. We should better focus on how to best choose the framework according to your team needs.

PS: Also we need to consider than Scrum is a living framework, it evolves over time. That is why the Scrum guide is updated frequently cf 2020 version https://www.scrumguides.org/docs/scrumguide/v2020/2020-Scrum-Guide-US.pdf
